Myrtle Albums

It's been ages since I took any photos of my sample albums, and figured this would be a great place to post a few. I use three album companies exclusively: Leather Craftsmen, Cypress, and Queensberry.

I also carry a line of fine Italian frames from Cavallini and Co. So pretty! and I make little wooden photo blocks, water color prints, and other sweet little crafty items. Call or email for more info.

Happy Friday!

Lovely Lauren

So I don't really do senior photos. But I made an exception for my beautiful cousin who graduates this year. Lauren came out from Santa Cruz to lovely Grass Valley and I drug her half around Nevada County. I think she works well with the natural surroundings. When we were shooting I was reminded a little of Nylon magazine that I used to read. Is it still around? We stuck to two outfits... and I'm so glad. I like that it was really just HER...no props...no planned story...just lovely.

15 minutes

Here are a couple shots from the recent mini shoot I did in Nevada City. 3 photographers and we each spent about 15-20 per session. It was a test in quick thinking and making a fast connection too. I think my favorite images are the more thoughtful or sombre ones, as you can see from my selection here. We shot in a grove-like setting with dappled and directional light. Super pretty. It's going to be fun to see each photographer's take on the same subjects. I want to do another one again soon.

Website Sneek Peek

My new website has been a long time coming. It's not ready yet, but I can post a few pages so you can see how amazing it will be when it's done! Super simple with bigger images than my last one. YAAYYYY!

It's Official... Spring is Here

Well actually, the first day of Spring was on Saturday...but I missed it. To make up for it, some lovely bouquets and a boutonniere...with my favorite spring flower: Lily of the Valley. The flower is said to symbolize: humility, chastity, sweetness and purity. And a little more on the plant HERE.

On a side note....I'm going on a road trip up to Canada for a bit. I'm excited to explore the North West again and planning on spending time in some towns I've never stayed at before. I'm sure to share a few things via twitter on the way and I know I'll have a huge bunch of personal work to edit when I return.

Hurrah for warm weather!

Now, Ingrid, Wait a Minute 1999

Those were the exact words I heard when I started this photo shoot with Grandma. We had gone down into the gardens below
her apartment on Sardis, specifically to take some pictures with my new camera. And she DID enjoy modeling ... but she wanted to be ready. I, of course, just started clicking away.

Now, Ingrid, wait a minute. Are you taking the pictures now?
Me: Uh-huh
Grandma: Laughs

We got a lot of great photos that day. There were ones with big smiles and little poses, but this images was by far my FAVORITE. For me, it contained the perfect memory. Always inquisitive and open and up for fun ... She was truly one of a kind and she will be missed.

Love Ingrid

The OTHER blog

So, I've managed to complicate my life yet again...with two blogs. I post most of my shoots for clients on the other blog... mainly a place to share recent photos with friends and family. This one is a little more mixed I guess. My concept is to contribute ideas, writings, links and random pictures here. I just revived this one after a year of nada. Not sure how long I'll be able to keep up with all the plans in my head, but I'm looking forward to all the changes with Myrtle. It's kind of happening bit by bit...no big reveal here...maybe happy hour when I feel it's complete....so check back here and there to see what changes occur.

I know I have a link already on the side bar to blog number 2....but for those who haven't noticed it.... I just posted a sweet engagement shoot on there.

Two Orchards

I have a huge collection of orchard photos. Many of which were taken before film scans and some are still unprinted, sitting in a box waiting for me to rediscover them. I just love the idea that I made something in an moment and yet it is still secret from me. One of the most magic things about film, is the anticipation of course, but I also love that you can pile up a stack of rolls and develop them all at once, sometimes forgetting what you took photos of. There is NOTHING more exciting than re-discovery. This is what happened after an orchard belly session I did last month. I also turned some loose personal rolls in, and I had no idea what was on any of them. (when you carry a camera everywhere...forgetfulness can happen pretty quickly) One roll was from a trip out to my friend Megan's farm. Two orchards, side by side about a month apart. It reminds me that spring is just around the corner.

Wedding in the Woods

Over the past ten years, I've photographed many weddings all across California and back in 2003 and 2004 I used to do these little mini collages for my brides to send out with their thank you notes. Now that inspiration boards are everywhere, I'd like to do a few myself as a revisit to my old collage days. I think maybe one a week with a theme will be fun. This set of images was pulled together from some of my favorite woodsy weddings and for those of you looking to have photos amongst the trees, you can even find pine groves in the city! Images taken at The Mendocino Woodlands Camp, The Outdoor Art Club, Stern Grove, Nevada County, The Lair of the Bear in Pinecrest, and even on the grounds of the Sacramento State Capital.
