On My Walk

Jose and I went for a walk last week with our little man. Elias fell asleep right away and so I had some time to snap a few photos here and there. We strolled around the back side of the Empire Mine, not the area with the lush gardens, but in the more wild section of horse trails and creeks. I like the darker side of the woods, the rough bark, the thorny thistles. Two of my favorite pictures are found here.

Classic Portrait

There's something so timeless about window light. When I was at UC Davis I took a few basic art history classes, as well as having painter parents, and both influenced the way I see light through the camera. Vermeer (a dutch painter) is a famous example of influence. This image of Kiki was taken sitting in the church pews and the north facing windows to her right provided the best light of the day. I could have spent an hour in that one spot. I love the softness of her face and how it is reinforced with the peonies in her bouquet & hair.

Depth

For this favorite photo of the week I choose another image from a recent wedding. The shot is of Nyree & Joseph right after they were married on the church steps. I used a wide angle lens for this shot and I love how sharp the kiss and bouquet look, compared to the people in the background...who aren't completely blurry, but just enough to keep your eye on the couple first. The action in the background is discovered later.
